after a week of work upon returing from L.A. (the pictures are up, finally), i made it up to boston to celebrate austin's birthday. while there, i managed to get my new haircut: kind of difficult to see, but it's only yellow/blonde in the front. i'll always be loyal to you, richard. and eat a ridiculously good meal at radius: amuse #1 - gulf shrimp salad with green grapes and white gazpacho. amuse #2 - yellowtail tartare with green lentils. extraordinary combination. japanese octopus with sweet & sour peppers, shaved haricots verts, in a citrus vinaigrette. NV bollinger special cuvee mediterranean rouget with basquaise peppers and squash and pistou. 2001 fournier sancerre wild king salmon with porcini, romaine, cipolline onions and uni emulsion. 1998 guy bocard meursault "les narvaux" handmade potato gnocchi with summer truffles, chive, and parmesan. vermont quail with brussels sprouts, salsify, squash fondue, and quince. 1999 bitouzet-prieur volnay slow-roasted prime ribeye with robuchon potatoes, baby carrots, haricots verts and red wine reduction. i was supposed to have cheese, pre-dessert, and dessert as well, but by that time, i was nearly ill from being so stuffed. (my fault, really, for insisting on lapping up all the sauces and picking up each and every crumb). this was definitely one of the best meals i've had in the last year. more memorable than most meals i've had in the three- and four-star restaurants in new york. good job, guys. i know i can always count on you. and scottie always picks out the best wines. these were absolutely remarkable. those robuchon potatoes are the best -- and the uni emulsion? holy shit, that stuff is mind-blowing. here's a nice picture of eating korean in L.A. just because.
