making it. i actually finished this about a month ago but never got around to posting a photo. this one's my own design, which came together while i was paging through the lace pattern section of barbara walker. i was actually thisclose to taking the whole thing apart with only a sleeve left to knit because it seemed to have really enormous proportions. but, as you can see, it seems to fit okay. the yarn is jaeger matchmaker merino DK, knit on size 6 needles. the market is bursting with figs, perhaps the most aesthetically pleasing and anatomically suggestive fruit in existence. it makes for some rather pretty jam: i used the recipe from the august 2005 issue of saveur, which calls for adding slices of lemon. i'm not opening these babies up for a few months yet, so jury's out on flavor.

I can't believe no one commented on your magnificent sweater and all the thousands of tiny stitches it took to make it! Boy, makes me think I should give up TV - I'd be so much better at lace patterns.

Fig season is wonderful. The preserves look divine. I can't believe you didn't order the headless pig (a few posts down)!
